SATURDAY 5th DECEMBER

Christmas Tree Sale: Church of the Good Shepherd, Bishopston

Cost: Trees available from £29

Christmas Tree Sale organised by Emmanuel Bristol with quality Nordmann Firs available to buy.
All profits will go to the Bristol charity, One25 which supports some of the city’s most marginalised women.
Covid guidelines will be followed. Come early to avoid disappointment!

Christmas Tree Sale: Horfield Parish Church Hall
When: 9am-4.30pm
Where: Horfield Parish Church Hall, Wellington Hill, BS7 8SP

Christmas Tree Sale organised by 62nd Bristol Scout Group.
Norway Spruce and Nordmann Fir trees will be available to buy in a range of sizes and with a choice of stands.

Christmas Wreath Making: Golden Hill Community Garden
When: 10am-4pm (90-minute sessions available)
Where: Monk Road (behind prison), BS7 8NE
Cost: £15 each (£5 additional people)/£7.50 for under-16s/children aged 0-4 go free.

A chance for you and your children to make a beautiful Christmas wreath for your door.  Learn to weave a hoop made out of willow which you can then decorate with glorious winter foliage!

90-minute sessions taking place outdoors or in the garden’s polytunnels, with small groups of people very spaced out.  Sessions must be booked here.  This event is an important fundraising activity for the garden; if the event has to be cancelled, you will be refunded minus £5, as the event will cost the garden money even if it does not take place.

If you have your own gloves, secateurs and scissors please do bring them along.  Dogs on leads welcome along.

MONDAY 7th DECEMBER

Virtual Open Morning: Horfield Welly Pre-school

Horfield Welly Pre-school is a friendly pre-school, rated “outstanding” by Ofsted, currently taking admissions for 2-4 year olds for September 2021.  This virtual open event will give local parents the chance to find out more about the preschool, meet the staff and see the setting in action.

Horfield Welly Pre-school offers a wide range of exciting and interesting activities for young children to enjoy every day.  It also boasts a wide range of educational toys, a large indoors and outdoor garden space, plus lots of forest school fun!

Horfield Welly Pre-school staff members are kind and nurturing, highly skilled and qualified, and maintain strong relationships with parents and carers.  Horfield Welly Pre-school is open in term-time from Tuesday to Friday, 9.15am-1pm and is based at Horfield Parish Church Hall, Wellington Hill, BS7 8ST.

Life and Times at a Midlands Iron Age Hillfort: Excavations at Burrough Hill

What would life have been like at a hillfort in the Iron Age? Hillforts are recognisable ancient monuments from the later prehistoric period. Recent excavations at Burrough Hill provide fascinating new evidence from a hillfort in the English Midlands which paint a vivid picture of life at this important monument.

John Thomas will discuss the discoveries made during a 5-year research project jointly undertaken by ULAS and University of Leicester which will make a significant contribution to hillfort studies nationally.

This Zoom talk is FREE but booking is essential here.  A link will be sent to attendees on the day of the talk.

A Nativity Window Trail for residents of Bishopston, Ashley Down, Horfield, Northville, Westbury on Trym, Henleaze and Westbury Park.

The window displays will give an amazing opportunity to marvel with the angels, journey with the wise men and see the baby Jesus born in a dirty stable.

Taking place for one weekend only (Friday 11 – Sunday 13th December), with 46 houses involved – each house will tell a stage of the Christmas story in creative and inspiring ways. Start at the beginning, middle or end, take in the whole trail or just parts of it!

At each window, there will be a QR code that links to a website containing the next part of the Christmas story and a Christmas Carol to play as you enjoy the scene.

Brunel Field School Winter Fair

A Virtual Winter Fair raising the festive community spirits with raffles, Christmas arts and crafts, festive pet competitions, Winter Feast cook-a-longs and more!
This event aims to raise some funds for much needed school projects, class resources and capital items to benefit all of the Brunel Field School children.
