Today Bishopston Mum features an interview with Laura Gibb: local mum, personal trainer and specialist in pre and post-natal exercise. You may remember Laura from my interview with her in February when she discussed her Mama on the Move pre and post-natal exercise classes.

Now, along with fellow fitness expert Helen Gardiner, Laura is launching some brand new exercise classes. ‘Fusion Fitness’ is a unique course combining Pilates and Circuit Training and is aimed specifically at local mums.
Please read on to find out more…
Hi Laura! I hear that you have an exciting new course planned?
Hello, yes I have teamed up with my colleague, fellow Personal Trainer and expert Pilates teacher, Helen Gardiner to introduce our new “Fusion Fitness” course. It’s an exercise fusion of high intensity calorie burning Circuit Training and Pilates.
As Group Exercise Instructors and Personal Trainers, Helen and I are often asked what type of exercise class clients should do if they have limited time. Many clients want to lose weight and “tone up”. I am always advising clients (especially postnatal women) to try and fit in a Pilate’s class if they can as it is so brilliant at strengthening the core. Equally Helen recommends her Pilates clients to include cardio and weight resistance to burn calories.
We decided to start an exercise class that combines it all, one night a week 45 minutes of high intensity Circuit training followed by 45 minutes of Pilates.
Helen
Sounds great. Who can do the course?
Women only and suitable for postnatal women – although due to the high intensity nature of the circuits we would recommend at least 3-6 months postnatal. Both Helen and I are Specialists in Pre and Postnatal Exercise so you will be in safe hands.
All fitness levels welcome – please don’t be put off if you haven’t exercised in a while. All exercises we do can be adapted to your current level of fitness and there are no complicated routines to follow.
What does Fusion Fitness involve?
This is a 6 week intensive course, consisting of 1x weekly class, 1.5 hours long. 45 minutes are dedicated to circuit training in the main hall. Then you will move into a smaller room designed for Pilates and finish with a great stretch and some core work for a further 45 minutes.
It will be a small class size – we are taking a maximum of 10 participants so we can give each individual our expert attention and coaching.
At the start of the course Helen and I will analyse body composition and run a series of fitness and flexibility tests. “Test” sounds scary but it’s really not. It will just help us benchmark your current fitness and flexibly levels and at the end of the course we will re-test to see the improvements you have made. You will really benefit from seeing how you develop and progress.
We will also give nutrition advice in the form of meal plans to follow over the 6 week course (and beyond). If your goal is to lose weight and tone up then you need to be doing some form of exercise at least 5 days a week. Therefore as part of this course we will be giving you a short (no more than 20 minutes) exercise programme that you can do in the comfort of your own home – and we will give you a FREE exercise band to help you do this.
How much does it cost?
The cost for the whole 6 week course, including the weekly classes, fitness testing, nutrition plans and home workouts is £120.
When and where will the course be held?
The course starts Tuesday 11th November 7.45pm – 9.30pm
Horfield Parish Church Hall, Wellington Hill, BS7 8ST
