If you are looking for a friendly toddler group for your 0-4 year old which has lots of great toys and activities, plenty of space for your little one to expend some energy, plus delicious homemade cake then read on!
Last week I went along to Emmanuel Bishopston Toddlers, a group for babies, toddlers and preschoolers on Wednesdays in term-time from 10 – 11.30am at Horfield Baptist Church Hall (entry via Brynland Avenue) and which has a £2 entry fee.
Emmanuel Toddlers is run by a team of mums with young children who attend Emmanuel Bishopston (a Church of England congregation which meets at Church of the Good Shepherd on Bishop Road at 11.15am on Sundays).
The group has just celebrated its third birthday after opening its doors in 2014 and has proved to be a huge success with many local families with 0-4s!
Claire Walford, one of the mums who helps to run Emmanuel Toddlers, explains:
“We’ve just celebrated our third birthday as a toddler group and it has been such a joy to watch dozens of families come through our doors and make Wednesdays a regular part of their week.
“It is really fun watching the babies and toddlers grow up and get more and more out of toddlers. It is also our hope that mums, dads and carers will make true friends through the group and find support and encouragement in the sometimes lonely days of parenting little ones.”
Emmanuel Toddlers has a fantastic variety of toys for 0-4s. There’s a special area with soft toys just for babies and their parents/carers.
For toddlers and pre-schoolers toys include a large toy kitchen, dinosaurs, a garage, cars and trucks, stickle bricks, plus a new train set and dressing-up costumes.
There are also regular activities such as play dough, stickers, musical instruments and a parachute which are all regularly rotated to keep things exciting for the little ones.
What’s more, there are lots of ride-on cars, a slide and climbing frame, and plenty of space to enjoy these all in – ideal if you have a toddler or preschooler with lots of energy!
While visiting Emmanuel Toddlers I chatted to a mum who is a regular visitor along with her little boy who shared her experience of the group:
“I’ve been coming to Emmanuel since my little boy was 3 months old. It’s such a warm, welcoming place and it’s great to have so many ride-on cars and space for my little boy to run around in! There’s such a great range of toys and activities for the toddlers. And the cake’s amazing!”
Snack time is at 11am ish. There are snack bowls and Squash/water for the little ones, plus teas, coffees and a fantastic variety of home-made cakes for the grown-ups.
Then it is time for story and singing time; this includes a children’s bible story plus a ‘Thought for the Day’ giving the parents and children a chance to sit and reflect for a few minutes.
As one mum explained: “It’s great that they sit and have a Bible story and a thought for the day – it’s great to have in a busy life when you don’t stop.”
Each Emmanuel session always ends with a special craft, followed by the Hokey Cokey, which of course, everyone enjoys!
There is currently a short waiting list for places at Emmanuel Bishopston Toddlers. To add your name please phone Claire Walford on 07833 458 985.
