Charborough Road Primary School: A Bishopston Mum Review

If you are a local parent with young children and are starting to look into local primary schools, the regular local parents’ primary schools reviews on Bishopston Mum should be helpful.

Today a local mum reviews Charborough Road Primary School, a school which is situated on Charborough Road in Filton and which has been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted.

How old are your children and what school year are they in?

My children are 7 and 5 (Year 3 and Reception)

Was Charborough Road School your first choice of school and if so, why?

Charborough Road School was our first choice because it’s closest to us and has a good reputation.

What are the best things about this school?

The atmosphere, the buildings and grounds.

In your opinion, what could be improved upon?

It could be more academically focused at times. Whilst its great they also focus on the wider spectrum of activities, they can seem less focussed on improving the children academically.

What do you think of the school building, facilities and size of the school?

The size of the school is perfect as it isn’t too big. The building and facilities are also really good. There’s a separate playground for Reception which is fantastic.

What do you think of the staff?

Most of the staff are friendly, helpful and the children like them. They work hard at their jobs and seem to all get on.

What are the school’s values?

Inclusion seems to be the main one. ‘Learning for life together’ is the school’s motto.

Do kids receive homework, reading or tasks to do at home?

Year 1 upwards get one homework task a week, reading with parents should be every day. They also get spellings once a week. However homework isn’t pushed.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The school is very keen on developing the whole child and like to include things like Welly Days on the school field regularly. However it can feel a bit like it’s lacking a bit of direction sometimes.
