On Sunday 16th July it will be Cycle Sunday on Clifton and Durdham Downs, a chance for children and families to enjoy some traffic-free cycling and fun activities!
The free family-friendly event has been organised by a committed group of parents from north Bristol, along with the charity, Sustrans, and will give families the chance to learn about Bristol’s beautiful green spaces while cycling in a safe and car-free environment.
The parents behind Cycle Sunday are holding the event to highlight the lack of safe cycling around the Downs and are also campaigning for cycle paths to be introduced so that people can enjoy a cycle there any day of the year.
Cycle Sunday will give children the chance to practise cycling on the road safely and previous events have seen many a child learn to ride their bikes for the first time!
An annual event, this year’s Cycle Sunday will be longer than normal offering a great day out for all of the family with a host of great activities to enjoy.
There will be guided nature walks around the Downs, free bike maintenance sessions and the chance to make delicious smoothies and artistic creations through pedal-power!
Families can hire tandems to ride around the Downs, plus Wheels for All will be in attendance with their range of adapted bikes for people with differing needs.
The Downs is a wonderful place to explore and offers lots of great walks, plus some beautiful secret areas to discover, perfect for a picnic!
Cycle Sunday will take place whatever the weather and a range of refreshments will be available such as tea, coffee, cold drinks and ice cream.
The event will be from 10am – 2pm and will take place on the Circular Road on the Downs.
