Dressed in high-vis jackets and fully briefed on road safety, the children and staff of Bishopston Beanstalks can often be spotted out exploring the neighbourhood on foot, one of the benefits of being located on Gloucester Road where each day presents a new opportunity for the children to learn and have fun.
Over the last few years the pre-school has developed good connections with the local community, making full use of the vast array of businesses and resources in walking distance of its setting. Children engage in a range of fun activities and trips out to broaden their understanding of the world and expose them to new activities and places.
They make regular trips to the Bristol School of Gymnastics (just next door), Lunar Optical, Horfield Common, Golden Hill allotments (Bishopston Beanstalks has its own plot) and the library in addition to the local florist, greengrocer and zero waste shop and an annual trip to St Werburghs City Farm.
Bishopston Beanstalks are so lucky to have everything in walking distance. The children are learning lots about road safety and the walk gives them a chance to take in their surroundings, listening to the sounds of the busy Gloucester Road and spotting shapes and numbers along the way. They are always on the look-out for bugs and flowers too and will find nature everywhere.
In addition to the Bishopston Beanstalks outdoor visits, the pre-school also invites lots of people in to run workshops. Yoga, baking, visits from Planet Pretend and The Bug Lady amongst other things. It provides a rich learning environment, new opportunities for physical development and most importantly….fun!
