Bishopston is a great place to live if you are a mum or dad. There are a gazillion playgroups, classes and activities for babies and children and these, alongside ante-natal groups and post-natal groups, provide many opportunities to meet and make friends.
But what happens if you are a mum or dad and are new to Bishopston? And what happens if, not only are you new to the area, but you also work throughout the week?
A mum named Christine recently contacted me who has found herself in this situation. She is, very bravely, setting up a weekend group for mums and dads in the same situation as her!
I will let Christine take over from here…
Christine and her little girl
“We moved to Bishopston last year after relocating from Sheffield. We wanted to join a toddler and parent group to get to know other young families in the area, but have found that most take place during weekdays, with only the odd group here and there specifically aimed at dads or families speaking a certain language.
We both work full time and we thought that others like us may like to join a child and parent group that meets at the weekend. So with some encouragement from Bishopston Mum (thank you Hilary!), we’ve decided to try it out. We’ve settled for Saturday, 10.30am (so it doesn’t clash with “men behaving dadly”, who meet once a month”), at Portico Play on Gloucester road. Everybody’s welcome – toddlers, mums, dads, grandparents, so come along!
For more information or suggestions (feedback on time and venue for instance), please call Christine on 07737072004. The two next dates are: Saturday 14th September and Saturday 21st September. Hopefully there will be more to come depending on demand!”
So, if you are in a similar situation as Christine and fancy meeting more young families who live in and around the Bishopston area, please do visit Portico on either of the above dates. Please do let us know how you get on!
