‘Meet the Parents’ – An event for parents to find out more about local secondary schools

education
On Thursday 8th October at 6.30pm, a “Meet the Parents” event is being held at Bishop Road Primary School.

The event aims to help parents of children in years 5 and 6 discover what three local secondary schools in the area are really like.

The event is organised by Next Step North Bristol – a grass roots initiative – with support from Bristol City Council.

The idea behind the event is simple. Parents of children currently at Redland Green, Orchard School and Fairfield High have been invited to form a panel and answer questions from parents of children from local/surrounding primary schools in an informal meeting.

Next Step North Bristol explain the reasons behind the event:

“Secondary schools are often seen as either ‘good’ or ‘bad’ year after year, regardless of how a school may change over time. Yet when Next Step North Bristol visited local secondary schools in 2013 we saw many good things happening and current parents had great things to say, but this message wasn’t getting out into the community.

“Our survey results from 2013 showed that parents wanted to send their children to a local school – if they thought it was good enough, and if they thought there was a space.

“This event is an opportunity for parents going through the secondary school selection process to ask questions and hear directly what their local secondary schools are like today, from parents just like them.”

If you would like to attend the Meet the Parents event, please book your place by completing the form on the Next Step North Bristol website.
