I am really pleased to tell you about Oasis Hour, a new weekly meet-up for parents and carers on Wednesday afternoons at Cairns Road Baptist Church in Westbury Park.
Oasis Hour has been set up for local parents and carers who once enjoyed visiting Cairns Café and have missed the café’s warmth, cheer and delicious cake since their children started school.
The event will also provide a place for others in the community who haven’t felt able to use café before, giving them the chance to make new friends or catch up with old ones.
Oasis Hour has been set up in response to many parents stating that they have missed Cairns Café since their children went to school.
Ruth Short, a volunteer at Cairns Café, explains:
“The idea for our Oasis hour came about because we hear so many people say they can’t come to café once the little ones they are looking after go to school.
“It seemed a shame to me that café is only there for such a short time in peoples lives when the little ones are small, and that then the relationships that are formed through it potentially lost.”
Oasis Hour will be held from 2.15 – 3.15 on Wednesday afternoons in term-time, giving parents and carers the chance to come along, re-charge their batteries and meet up with friends over a cuppa and cake before the school run.
It is free entry and a range of drinks and home-made cakes are available, all of which are very reasonably priced.
Oasis Hour will be run in addition to the regular morning sessions at Cairns Café on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but will be a calmer and more tranquil time due to there being no little ones around, hence the name.
So far, Oasis Hour has received a positive response from local parents who have visited and the volunteers hope to expand Oasis Hour to more than just once a week in future.
You can find Cairns Café at Cairns Road Baptist Church, Cairns Road, Westbury Park, BS6 7TH.
Do go along to Oasis Hour one Wednesday – you will be sure of a friendly face, good cheer and wonderful cake!
