On Tuesday 21st November a new 5-week Baby Massage Course begins at Yogawest in Bishopston.
The Baby Massage Course is for babies aged newborn to 12 months, including babies born prematurely and will include a mixture of Swedish massage, Indian massage, baby yoga and Reflexology.
The weekly hour-long sessions will teach you a whole body routine to offer your baby, from this you can also pick and mix strokes to make up your own routine as your baby likes it.
Baby massage has many benefits for babies. Babies who receive regular massages are often healthier, happier, grow faster and can be more socially well-adjusted.
Massage also helps babies to sleep and can relieve upset tummies.
The Baby Massage Course will be enjoyable for both yourself and your baby, plus will be a wonderful way to bond with your baby. Massage is a time of intimacy, loving touch and relaxation by which you can grow the range of ways of being and communicating together.
Babies and children learn first through touch which is why massage is so connecting. Through massage babies learn to recognise, share and enjoy healthy loving touch.
The Baby Massage Course will also be a great way to meet other parents in the local area.
The course will be led by Jocasta Crofts, a trained Infant Massage Educator, Infant Developmental Movement Educator (IDME), Somatic Movement Educator, Professional dance artist, qualified Yoga teacher and a qualified and practising massage therapist.
Jocasta has been teaching Baby massage for 7 years, as well as practising regularly on her own son as he grows up.
Jocasta’s own son was born 3 months premature and she has personal experience of how it can be possible for babies and parents to heal, recover and thrive after a difficult start to life.
