There’s some lovely news from Filton Avenue Primary School, which has received a highly positive Ofsted inspection.
Inspectors particularly praised the school’s personal development and wellbeing provision, as well as its inclusive approach and the opportunities it gives children to develop confidence, communication skills and aspirations.
One area highlighted in particular was oracy – helping children develop their speaking and listening skills. Inspectors said the school’s consistent focus on oracy has had a “transformational impact”, helping pupils become articulate, confident and curious learners.
The report also describes children as loving school and arriving “brimming with enthusiasm for the day ahead” – a lovely reflection of the school’s welcoming atmosphere.
Filton Avenue was praised for its extensive pastoral support, strong relationships between staff and pupils, and its inclusive culture. Inspectors found that children feel safe, valued and supported, while staff work hard to make sure every child can access the same ambitious opportunities.
The school’s enrichment programme, leadership opportunities and wider personal development activities were also recognised for helping children build resilience, character and a sense of responsibility.
Headteacher Dan Rodeck said the report was a recognition of the hard work of pupils, families, staff and governors, adding that the school remains committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.
The inspection also recognised strong standards in curriculum and teaching, early years, inclusion, leadership and governance, with pupils described as being well prepared for the next stage of their education.
It sounds like a very positive result for the Filton Avenue school community – particularly the recognition of its work helping children to grow in confidence, communication and aspiration, as well as academically.
